About the Role:
We are entering an exciting phase of transformation within Nottingham City Council as part of our recent Improvement Plan. Our commitment to overcoming recent challenges and investing in the city's future is stronger than ever. As part of this investment, we are actively changing and enhancing our youth services to ensure the best opportunities for children and young people in Nottingham.

As a Youth Development Worker, you will be at the heart of this change, playing a vital role in the delivery of youth services across a variety of settings – from centre-based, outreach, and detached locations. You will collaborate with colleagues in Children’s Integrated Services, as well as voluntary and community organizations, to coordinate positive activities that enhance the personal, social, and educational development of children and young people across the city.

In this citywide role, you will oversee volunteers, ensure the safe use of delivery sites, and make sure the services provided are of high quality and inclusive of the diverse communities in Nottingham. You will also help young people connect with the city's vibrant art and cultural scene, while supporting them in developing valuable life skills through initiatives such as the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA’s Units).

Nottingham is a vibrant and culturally rich city. You'll have the unique opportunity to connect young people to the city's thriving art and cultural scene, helping them develop socially and educationally.

We offer ongoing training and development opportunities to ensure you have the support you need to thrive in this role and grow professionally.

About You

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • JNC Degree / Diploma in Youth Work or equivalent level degree in a relevant children service (e.g., education, health, youth justice)
  • Proven experience in providing high-quality services for children and young people, particularly those at risk of anti-social behaviour and youth violence. For example, you might have experience as a youth worker, teaching assistant or children's care home worker.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in planning, coordinating, and leading youth work sessions in various settings, some of which may present challenges.
  • The ability to advocate for and achieve positive outcomes for young people by influencing and collaborating across partnerships.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding and early help practices for children, young people, and families.
  • A willingness and commitment to work evenings and weekends to meet service needs.
  • A passion for engaging young people in skills-based learning and life skills initiatives.
  • The ability to be proactive in researching, identifying and developing avenues of alternative funding.

Please ensure you demonstrate how you meet the above requirement in your supporting documents
