- About
- Social Care Direct has an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join our friendly team. This position is suitable for Newly Qualified Social Workers with appropriate experience, but we would welcome applications from those who have completed their ASYE.
Social Care Direct is the first point of contact for all referrals for Adult Social Care at Wakefield Council. The team also provides the Out of Hours service for Wakefield Council and some infrequent evening and weekend work would be involved. We are implementing hybrid-working so there will be opportunity to work flexibly and from home dependent on business requirements. Most of our work is done over the phone and excellent communication skills are essential.
What the role involves –
Triaging new referrals that come to Adult Social Care – assessing urgency and risk and prioritising
Offering advice and information to the public about Adult Social Care
Gathering information and assessing risk for new safeguarding cases
Ensuring you have excellent knowledge about community and third sector services
Working in partnership with health colleagues (who are co-located with us) to best support people.
You will need to have a good understanding of The Care Act 2014 and The Mental Capacity Act 2005. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is good at making decisions quickly. The work we do is short term and varied and would suit someone who would like to get a wide range of experience in social care.

Wakefield Adult Social Care has implemented a Social Work Career Framework to support the professional development of its social work practitioners. This enables Social Workers who have successfully completed the ASYE Programme to be considered for progression to the role of Experienced Social Worker.
