- Demonstrate competence in handling, cleaning, decontaminating, tracking and maintaining specialist endoscopy equipment min accordance with local, National and Trust decontamination guidelines and policies. Demonstrate awareness of COSHH regulations and the importance of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when dealing with contaminated equipment or chemicals. Guide and support junior members of staff in their development and assist the Unit Manager in the training of all staff in the cleaning and reprocessing of endoscopes. Ensure that weekly samples are taken according to agreed protocols including daily machine tests and escalate any concerns. Maintain patient dignity and privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times. Maintain accurate and legible records. Ensure that all staff are treated with respect. Ensure that patients and visitors are treated with equality as well as respect. Communicate effectively with patients using tact, diplomacy, empathy and reassurance during potentially difficult and stressful situations or where there may be a barrier to understanding. To act in a manner that promotes positive working relationships and maintains professionalism, actively participates in team meeting, team development and service improvement as required. Supervise and mentor junior staff to reach a level of competence where they excel and can work unsupervised.
